Spirit Week

Spirit+Week+

From Oct. 15 to Oct. 19, Bellaire students support the football team and express themselves by wearing themed clothing designated by the student government. This year, Monday was “Decade Day”, Tuesday was “Nerd Day”, Wednesday was “Holiday Day”, Thursday was “Twin Day”, and as always, Friday was “Red and White Day”. Senior Anna Hiran, president of student government, guided the student government towards reaching a decision.

“By using parliamentary procedure, we were able to decide which days were what theme,” Hiran said. “Jonathan Dror came up with the idea of Holiday Day this year and we voted on it.”

Spirit week is an outlet for creativity and school pride. For an entire week, looking ridiculous is the name of the game.

“Dressing up is always so much fun because you can look like a total idiot and no one can judge you,” freshman Linnea Schuessler said.

Over the top costumes make the week even more entertaining. Walking through the hallway and looking at what others are wearing is a huge part of the entire week.

“I saw a person dressed as Jesus on decade day,” Schuessler said. “I thought it was really funny.”

For seniors, the last spirit week of their high school career is more nostalgic than the other years’. Senior Natalie Dorman decided to be President’s Day for “Holiday Day” this year.

“I wanted to portray Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Rider outfit,” Dorman said. “I wore khaki pants and a khaki button down, a cowboy hat, and a paper mustache. I also brought a teddy bear, just in case people couldn’t get it.”

From upperclassmen to lowerclassmen, new students and old, Spirit week is a time for all of Bellaire to come together. As the days built up to the homecoming game, the hallways were filled with hippies, nerds, Christmas costumes and twins- something you don’t see everyday.

“Spirit Week is my favorite time of the year!” Schuessler said.
