Album Review: Justin Bieber’s Purpose

Coming out with his new album three years after his last one, Justin Bieber has recently broken through with his fourth studio album, Purpose. Released on November 13th, 2015, Purpose touched on his past relationships with Selena Gomez and gave an insight into his thoughts on his life at this moment. Even more so, he sings songs filled with humility, proving his growth from his last album breakthrough.

In fact, Purpose almost seems like a mission to make amends with songs like “Sorry,” questioning whether or not an apology would still be accepted. Furthermore, Bieber reflects on his past behaviors and begs the general public to understand the reasoning behind his choices in life with songs like “No Pressure” and “I’ll Show You.”

However, the entire album isn’t packed with only slow songs. The album has some upbeat tunes, especially since Skillrex and other EDM musicians co-produced it as well. Songs like “What Do You Mean?” and “Where Are Ü Now?” display the beats made and given by Skillrex, creating a different flow to the album as well.

Nevertheless, Bieber still manages to give some emotional songs as well; in fact, one is even co-written Ed Sheeran. “Life is Worth Living” is one of the ballads where Justin Bieber struggles to find justification from the public for what he’s done. Giving a look into his extensive and long battle of rehabilitation, Bieber even claims that his “reputation is on the line,” and that his main goal at the moment is to work on a better him.

Spending the majority of his life under the public’s eye, Justin Bieber has experienced a growth like most child stars, changing the focus and direction of his music. Although this album was reviewed negatively in some areas, Bieber’s intense and extremely dedicated fanbase have accepted this album as one of his best. Beginning his Purpose World Tour on March 9th, 2016, Bieber will began to take his album live with on-stage dance numbers.
