Every year, the BHS Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) goes to the Fiestas Patrias Parade in downtown Houston. This year, on Sep. 19, they went out again to represent our school in full force for the Mexican-American “Patriotic Holiday.” For freshman Cadet Brenda Diez’s, this was her first ever JROTC event.

“I was right in the middle,” Diez said. “It was fun and interesting, a cool experience that I’ve never had before. I’ve made new friends.”

Cadet Angela Velasco was a color guard member at the parade.

“There was a lot of cadets, a lot of class participation. It was a lot of fun.” Velasco said. “I was at the front of the line with the Color Guard. It was fun because you get to see everything before everybody else, and I commanded the Banner and Color Guard, so we did our own thing.”

“We met a lot of schools, but we were the best,” Diez said. “Bellaire pride.”

The JROTC will march again this Nov. in the upcoming Veteran’s Day parade.
