Close friends get together to show off their shirts.

Walking down the hall or even sitting in class you’d see students wearing shirts saying “Cruzin’ through the fight”. These shirts were made to honor senior, Michael Robinson. Robinson went through a majority of his senior year battling a rare form of cancer. Sadly, he lost his fight March 8th. During his fight, his family organized a gofundme page that let friends of the family donate money for his medical funds and further arrangements.
Seeing that his family and friends were upset about how Michael’s condition, Senior Yahaira Luna and myself knew that we needed to help in any way that we could. We spoke both our college counselor, Mrs. Faith about what we should do and she suggested that we make shirts on booster.com. Booster is a sister company to Custom Ink, but all the proceeds from the shirts go towards a charity of your choice. Yahaira suggested that we put Michael’s gofundme as our charity.
As the week went on, Luna began to design the shirt. When trying to come up with design, she used Michael’s personal style and his favorite rappers Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler the Creator. On the upper left side of the shirt there’s a graphic that says “Cruzin’ through the fight”.
“Cruzin’ through the fight was derived from Michael always riding his skateboard and how much of a fight he was.” said Luna. Each shirt came in four different colors ranging from a salmon pink, baby blue, white and grey.
The whole process took about six weeks as shirts were created, sold, and shipped out. Once they began to come in the mail, students and teachers started to wear the shirts around campus. On Friday April 10th, a group of close friends and teachers to michael came together and took a picture in their shirts. One of Michael’s friend and classmate, Sarah Martin shared her thought on the shirts.
“I love how everyone came together, bought a shirt and I know that if he was still here he would love it.” Said Martin.
So even though he is not here with us physically, his loving personality and funny jokes will always be with us. It was a great honor for Luna and I to create these shirts and to see them being worn around school.
