Club presidents discuss their duties

Meetings, dealing with administration,  working late to finish projects, booking events and speakers can seem like the duties of a well paid IBM manager; however, these are the duties of your average club president.

“It’s a lot of fun, but there is also a lot of work and a lot of behind the scenes stuff people don’t normally think of, said Lyle Jares, the president of Bellaire’s award winning band.

Jares has been in band for nearly seven years and has played the tuba, trumpet and now the trombone for nearly 10 years.

Bellaire is known for its multitude of clubs and organizations within its walls. With more than 100 clubs ranging from the Spikeball club to the Photo Society, students serve leadership positions to bolster their college applications, educate others about a certain topic,  give back to their community, and seek change in our society or for our environment.

Sarika Kotha, the president of Financial Technologies, said she enjoys leading her peers.

“To be honest, it hasn’t been too difficult,” she said. “The thing that takes the most time is preparing topic materials for our meetings other than that though, I love teaching and engaging with my peers, so presentations come naturally to me.”
