[NEWS BRIEF] Belles host annual ball

Senior and lieutenant colonel Natalie Faris was chosen as the Belle of the Ball. One senior is voted each year to represent Belles and be rewarded with a tiara and flowers.

The Belles dance team hosted and attended the annual Belle Ball yesterday at Derek Hotel. The event was a night full of dancing, celebrating and goodbyes for the 23 seniors. Seniors presented their speeches for their audience of friends and parents and the Belle of the Ball, senior and lieutenant colonel Natalie Faris, was announced.

Faris said that the highlight of her night was having the honor of being the Belle of the Ball. She said she was appreciative of her teammates who voted for her to represent Belles with a tiara and bouquet of flowers.

“My last Belle Ball was amazing, especially being the Belle of the Ball,” Faris said. “Enjoy every second you have with the team and appreciate the small moments because they go by really fast. All of my favorite memories on Belles are from spending time as a team because there is a strong sense of sisterhood.”

It was varsity Belle and freshman Chloe Lin’s first Belle Ball.

“My first Belle ball was super fun and felt very fancy,” Lin said. “It was great being able to go to a dance where you knew everyone and everything was on a more personal level. I would definitely attend next year and I can’t wait to see what the socials come up with since they work super hard to make this event happen.”

The Ball was also a first for guest date and sophomore Rayleigh Nam.

“The event was really cool and I was glad I got to dress up nice and see all my friends,” Nam said. “The music and food was my favorite part because it was really fancy and fun.”

Among the social officers that planned the whole event was senior and treasurer Caroline Desrosiers. Because it was her last Belle Ball, she said she wanted to make the best of it no matter what.

“Even though I had a wipeout in my shoes; luckily not a second time, I just wanted to make the best of the night I will remember. I really love seeing all my favorite people and spending time with them,” Desrosiers said. “It was a really fun experience even though we struggled with our budget for venues. In the end, it was really refreshing to see all the hard work and effort we put in come to a close.”

Senior and historian Paris Joubert brought tears to many guests’ eyes when she read her senior speech.

“My senior speech did make a lot of people emotional whenI started to talk about my mom,” Joubert said. “Sometimes we need to cherish the moments we have with our loved ones and thank them everyday for being there for us. I don’t tell my mom enough how much I love and enjoy her always being there for me as a single parent. I was very excited to experience the night with all my sisters and capture lots of memories. There were no regrets from that night and I hope all the other Belles get to experience the best four years on Belles like I have. It has been a pleasure being a historian my senior year, now my time is up.”
