It has been a little over a month since President Donald Trump has been inaugurated into office. Since then, the political climate of the United States has greatly changed and, as a result, the rampant emotions, opinions and perspectives on the United State’s political scene have become much more prominent. As such, it is paramount to see the political perspectives of before the election in order to better understand where we have come since then. The following interview with senior and National Chief of Staff of the High School Democrats of America Ajay Singh comes before the election.

S- “What advice would you give to your presidential nominee if you became their advisor for the final days of their campaign?”

A- “Maintain the message that she’s been giving. She’s been doing a very good job in the last few debates. She has come off as the candidate who has it all in control. She knows exactly what she’s doing in terms of her policy and she’s very clear about what she sees for this country and what she wants to do for her 4 years or 8 years if it gets to that of her presidency. Keep her vision forward. Keep campaigning and not give up as she hasn’t in the last 30 years.”

S- “What do you think are the strong points of your candidate and what do you think they should focus on towards the end of the race?”

A- “I think the other candidate has brought up some issues that really capitalize why she’s been running. Female empowerment. I think that’s a big plus for her, Hillary Clinton. She’s the first nominee for a major party that’s a female. I think that’s something that she has been capitalizing on and that’s something that she should continue capitalizing on. The major issues that people will be voting on are the Supreme Court and immigration. I think that going into the last few days she should continue her focus on those issues if she were to pick any three or four issues. I think she should focus on the Supreme Court and immigration. Making sure that we have progressive justices that will uphold Roe v. Wade and overturn Citizens United v. FEC. She should make sure to that as well make comprehensive immigration reform. I think those are important.”

S- “If you were given the opportunity to speak to an undecided voter what would you say makes your candidate better than the other?”

A- “I think that undecided voters are usually focused on one issue. Undecided voters don’t usually identify with a party so I would try to identify what issue the undecided voter really cared about whether it’s the environment, Supreme Court, immigration or maybe just in general if they have no idea. I would try to convince them that Hillary Clinton is not only the most experienced but she has the best vision for the direction that our country needs to go in. She truly understands how government works and would do a great job in comparison to the Republican candidate.”

S- “What do you think have been the highlights of your candidate’s run?”

A- “I think that Hillary Clinton has done a very good job during the general debates. I think she has really shown that she can maintain her composure in the face of the other candidate who tends to be erratic in the way that he approaches discourse and issues. She’s strong and willing to do the work that needs to be done. Her major point in her candidacy was when she won the nomination. That was historic. That was something that had never happened before. The fact that she was able to usher in with the help of Bernie Sanders, the most progressive platform in the history of the DNC. I think those were very key points in her campaign as well.”

S-”What is your opinion on your candidate’s performance in the debates?”

A-”I think she did extremely well in the debates. She exceeded my expectations. I expected that Trump would catch her off guard with the way that he usually debates. We know he brings topics out of nowhere; he pivots a lot, and he tends to be very extreme in the way he addresses issues. I think that Hillary Clinton was able to manage that and keep it policy focused when she could but was also able to drive her message home of having a united America instead of a divided America. I think she’s really pinning that on Trump for making a divided America in this election. I think she’s doing a very good job of keeping it on the policies and keeping her message focused in the face of Trump’s inconsistency.

S-”What are your favorite attributes of your candidate?

”I think Hillary’s perseverance is one of my favorite aspects. She never gives up and is always working hard. She is also far more policy-focused than the other candidate. From day one she’s known what she wants to do as president and has kept it focused on the policies. She has step-by-step plans for what she wants to do when she becomes president. I also really appreciate her experience. She definitely knows what she needs to do as president. She knows how government works, how the different cogs and gears of government function, and she knows what she needs to do.

The Young Republican party declined to comment on behalf of their nominee.
