On Thursday, March 13th, The Italian National Honor Society and The Italian Club held their first ever Italian Luncheon in the Multipurpose Room. Catered by Gugliani’s, an Italian restaurant located in Meyerland Plaza, the luncheon provided a three-course meal with a salad, pasta dish, and desert for $8. Italian Club sponsor and Italian teacher Caterina Ziliani explains the meaning behind the traditional Italian ice cream, tiramisu.

“Tiramisu literally means pull me up, because when you feel down and you eat some, you feel better.  The kids from the Italian Club and the Italian National Honor Society made it themselves the day before the luncheon.”

Every member of the two clubs participated in the event. Students volunteered for different task ranging from the set up, serving, and making the tiramisu. Junior Alisha Beckford, Italian Club president, shares the preparation that went into the luncheon.

“To prepare, We split up into groups and separated into designing and setting up the MPR. Then, we decorated the room.”

The MPR was filled with Italian flags and other red, green, and white decorations as well as live music provided by members of the clubs. Having sold almost 200 tickets, Beckford considered the event to be both successful and enjoyable.

“The luncheon went really well,” Beckford said. “The pasta was really good. It was organized and everyone had fun. You could see everyone smiling.”
