Arabic Students Host Successful Luncheon

On March 14 the Arabic Club hosted their first luncheon in three years. The club decided to share their Middle Eastern heritage through their selection of food, which was catered from Fadi’s, as well as raise money for the college councilor Rachel Manraj. Manraj has come across severe kidney failure and needed to raise money for an expensive kidney transplant. The food included hummus, pita bread, a chicken shwarma sandwich, and a typical Mediterranean desert called Baklava. Each ticket was sold for $6 and $1 was taken for donation towards Manraj’s cause. In total the club was able to raise a little over $100 for her.

Senior Heba Hajjar is the president of the Arabic club and was very satisfied with her experience of planning the luncheon. She enjoyed the luncheon and was happy with the outcome even though she wishes they could have raised more money.

“It was a challenge planning the luncheon because we hadn’t had a luncheon since I was a freshman,” said Hajjar. “Our past teacher Fadwa Saqer passed away this year and we were a bit lost without her at the beginning, but we worked with our new teacher Samer Halabi in attempting to make the luncheon as successful as possible. It was fun and I learned a lot.”
