On Wednesday, February 5th, AP Biology, Mrs. Anna Loonam and Dr.Fernando Scaglia of Baylor College of Medicine hosted Genetics Night where all of Mrs. Loonam students presented a variety of projects about different genetic disorders.

Students were placed in groups of four and were given a unique genetic disorder. There were eighteen different diseases to be presented. Starting from Tay Sachs which is a metabolic disorder in which certain lipids accumulate in the brain Disease to Turners Syndrome which is a genetic defect in which affected women have only one X chromosome.

At each station Dr. Scaglia listened to each of the students speak about their projects and were graded based on their knowledge of the disease.

“Genetics night was a great turn out,” said Junior Ellen Morris. “I learned a whole lot from my class mates. There were several disease I had heard of but never really knew how they affected the people that had it.”
