A senior tradition for girls is to make overalls personalized with decorations that represent the different clubs and sports they are involved in.  The girls cut red and white fabric letters to spell out their names and “Senior 2015.”  On Fri. Aug. 29, seniors wore their overalls to school.

Finding overalls was difficult towards the end of summer since many girls bought them from thrift stores in the area.  Senior Clara VanLandingham explained her struggle in finding the right pair of overalls.

“I’m really tall, and it was hard to find overalls that were long enough,” VanLandingham said.  “I went to Value Village, and they didn’t have any that worked for me.  I ended up having to order my overalls online.  It was a little pricey, but they were the perfect fit.”

The process of making overalls can take a long time.  Some girls spent several hours perfecting their overalls and making sure they had all the fabric and ribbon glued down securely.  Senior Mackenzie Ward talked about her stressful experience.

“I stayed up really late last night finishing my overalls,” Ward said.  “I didn’t start my overalls until the last day of summer, and that was a really bad idea.  It was hard to balance finishing my overalls along with doing my homework, but I finished!”

Others finished their overalls much earlier in the summer.

“I finished them in August, and it took me a couple of days to complete them,” VanLandingham said.  “It takes forever to cut all the letters and fabric out.”

Seniors will continue to wear their overalls each Friday.
