Italian Luncheon

The Italian National Honor Society hosted its annual luncheon on Friday, Feb. 5. The Carnevale-themed feast was served by INHS members decked out in appropriate colorful costumes and was accompanied by live Italian music. Both the meat and vegetarian meal options included delicious pasta along with salad and focaccia bread. Luncheon-goers were treated with a chocolate baci to finish off the meal. Co-secretary of the INHS Junior Anna Jorgensen detailed the preparations made for the luncheon.

“All week afterschool, we made costumes out of crepe paper,” Jorgensen said. Before that, we had meetings to organize where we were getting the food from. I’m really excited because this year, it’s from Amalfi, which is a really good Italian restaurant. I’m also excited for the food, and some of the costumes are really great, especially Pinocchio.”

The costumes that servers at the luncheon wore ranged in character, and the time and effort put into making the luncheon a success was evident. The splendid array of food was complemented by equally spectacular entertainment. Two groups of students gave musical performances, with one consisting of three musicians comprising The Sorellas, while the other performed a self-lyricized rap. The former performed traditional Italian music from Napoli, Jorgensen said.

Food options often vary from year to year for the Italian luncheon, offering a panoramic sampling of some of the Italian cuisine. This year, a Carnevale-themed atmosphere filled the air as people filed in to receive their meals. A complementary photo booth and a Carnevale video projected on the wall reflected the excitement of one of Italy’s most celebrated festivals. The Italian luncheon offered both delicious food and inspiration to get into the Carnevale spirit. Luncheon-goers were able to sit and eat their meal while enjoying the festivities courtesy of the Italian National Honor Society. It’s safe to say this year’s Italian luncheon was a huge success!
