The French National Honor Society (FNHS) celebrated the holiday La Toussaint by creating origami flowers for loved ones in Room 2717 during the first half of Cardinal Hour on Oct. 27.
La Toussaint has religious origin as a Catholic holiday to honor dead saints and is now a national holiday for people to commemorate dead loved ones by placing flowers like chrysanthemums on graves.
Sophomore and FNHS member Petronella Streeter found the holiday and flower making “fun” and “interesting.”
“I joined FNHS last year when I was in French 2, and I just wanted to learn more about France in general,” Streeter said. “I went there on a trip, and I really liked it, so that’s kind of what prompted me to join FNHS.”
Senior and historian Camilla Flanagan found the celebration “beautiful,” as it tied into her religious and cultural aspects of being Vietnamese.
“I hope that we can promote French culture in a way that makes people want to join and be more interested in learning about France,” Flanagan said.
