Culinary Club’s winter food sale collaboration with Karaoke Club was held in Room 2704 on Dec. 10. Around 40 students bought food while Karaoke Club officers played Christmas music karaoke.

The clubs sold treats including strawberry milkshakes, sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies and chocolate covered strawberries. They ranged from $1 to $3, baked and brought by officers of Culinary Club.

Junior and chef Miley Nguyen said that officers buy ingredients and bake homemade culinary treats. The treats are then sold at the club’s meetings, and sales then go into savings for future meetings.

“We save our funds for later projects,” Nguyen said. “For example, we can invest in a thermos that we’d use for our club, or we can use the money for volunteer opportunities.”

Nguyen brought 12 homemade strawberry milkshakes, which sold out within minutes of the start of the sale. Junior and chefs Grayson Ho and sophomore Alisa Krezhenstovska brought the other treats.

“It was successful, but we just didn't have enough stuff,” Nguyen said. “That's just something that we'll learn for next time.”

Junior and Karaoke Club co-President Kamea Ta also said the event was a success. According to Ta, Culinary Club officers were able to keep the sale running smoothly.

“Overall I thought the collaboration was successful,” Ta said. “They really helped organize the flow to make sure the whole setup wasn't too chaotic or busy.”

Karaoke Club has partnered with Tea Society and Best Buddies, and annually participates in Project Santa, where clubs host a holiday carnival for patients at Texas Children’s Hospital.

“We’re also hoping to possibly host a karaoke competition with students versus teachers next semester, but plans have not yet been officialized on that yet for this year,” Ta said.

Culinary Club also plans to host informative meetings over culinary topics ranging from matcha to yogurt in the future, as well as hold a potluck for Valentine’s Day.
