Spoilers for “Avatar: Fire and Ash”
“Avatar: Fire and Ash” brings us back to Pandora with the Sully family grieving Neteyam’s death. This new chapter brings in fresh aspects of Pandora's people, in addition to revisiting old conflicts, as Quaritch is not dead. With “Avatar: The Way of Water” leaving the audience on a major cliffhanger, it is only natural that this movie would be one of the most anticipated of 2025.
I can proudly say that I was one of those people that had the unnamed Avatar 3 in my Letterboxd watchlist since the official confirmation. Now, let’s get into exactly what was going through my mind throughout this film.
1. Isn’t Neteyam dead?
2. Lo’ak has to be dreaming or connected to the ancestral tree.
3. Can Spider and Kiri stop flirting?
4. Poor Neytiri. She’s actively grieving the way she was taught and Jake just keeps berating it.
5. Jake is really irritating me.
6. Give your son a little grace.
7. That’s literally your wife’s bow. How does it ‘not matter?’
8. Aw Payakan.
9. Woah, that is gorgeous. [Windtraders’ flying ships]
10. Spider needs to go.
11. They should’ve just sent Spider alone.
12. Why did Spider have to save Quaritch? This was so avoidable.
13. Oh my gosh, he forgot the comms again.
14. How are the Ash people so powerful?
15. How is Neytiri going to get help without comms and her injuries?
16. How did one arrow do that much damage?
17. Just shoot.
18. Okay, an alliance…sort of?
19. Spider is definitely not dead.
20. And surprise, he’s not.
21. They’re not moving fast enough in this predicament.
22. And that’s why they got caught, great.
23. These sorry hisses need to go.
24. Oh, that’s what that scene was.
25. This is so cool yet creepy.
26. How does the Unnamed Guard not see the glowing grass?
27. Quaritch. What a coward.
28. Why are they giving Spider a transformation arc…
29. Are they seriously exiling Payakan right now?
30. Oh gosh. Why is Jake grabbing Lo’ak so roughly? Why does Jake just expect him to stand by while his friend is getting exiled?
31. Why would you ever say that to your grieving son?
32. “Nothing to say”, are we serious? You just blamed him for his brother’s death.
33. But your husband is a ‘pink skin’.
34. Okay, apologizing immediately… Now go do the same for your son.
35. Is Lo’ak doing what I think he’s going to do?
36. No no no. Put the gun down.
37. Phew.
38. Can Spider take the goggles off?
39. Gosh this is horrific.
40. Going to a native clan for help to slaughter other native clans, how ironic.
41. I’ve been waiting for this scene.
42. Okay I sense something going on here…
43. “An equal”, sure.
44. Take the goggles off.
45. Lo’ak and Tiserya are so cute.
46. He remade his mother’s bow, I’m going to cry.
47. Expected but also not expected… not the couple I needed to see.
48. Spider is talking way too much.
49. Please don’t slaughter this clan like the others.
50. Don’t shoot please.
51. The suits to make the generals stand as tall as the Na’vi are killing me.
52. Replicate it? Oh dear.
53. Did you just give in after a five minute nostalgia talk?
54. Only one left?
55. The eyes.
56. All these greedy personnel need to go now.
57. I’m irritated.
58. Payakan is back!
59. Oh, he did not actually care for the speech or the dog tag, good on him.
60. Yes, Neytiri.
61. I knew they were forming a relationship.
62. Now Quaritch is assimilating into the traditions…interesting
63. Cut her Kuru, please.
64. The arrows Jake made for her!
65. That is so smart wow.
66. Outsmarted left and right, this is just embarrassing.
67. He’s not going to actually kill Spider.
68. Wait, he might.
69. Oh, nevermind.
70. Okay Toruk Makto is back.
71. Please let the Tulkun help.
72. Look at what they did to him.
73. Decide? There’s no time to decide. The war is literally tomorrow.
74. What’s up with the body paint?
75. The Tulkun agreed, oh my gosh.
76. This is actually amazing.
77. I need Mick over board like now.
78. The Ash arrives just as things are going good. That’s just great.
79. That’s what Eywa looks like? She looks just like Kiri.
80. Right as they reach her the tree is shot. I’m done.
81. First Rotxo and now Ronal too?
82. I thought Varang would’ve threatened to kill Pril by now.
83. Oh dear.
84. Eywa heard them. About time she did.
85. Toruk is still alive?
86. Finally, Mick got what he deserved.
87. The irony of Varang having her own tactic used against her by the child of Eywa.
88. Can they just end this?
89. Quaritch got away again. I have to deal with him for a whole another movie.
90. Aw Pril.
91. The goggles.
92. This ending was definitely more resolved and peaceful than I was expecting.
